How To Find Local Movers

Oct 25, 2018 | Local Movers Northern Colorado

Finding the right local movers is essential for a stress-free move.

There are many reasons to hire a moving company for your upcoming move. Hiring movers will save you time, prevent you from getting injured during your move and, last but certainly not least, help to take a lot of the stress out of your move. However, not all movers in the Northern Colorado area and the Denver area are made equal, and hiring the wrong mover can make your move harder and more expensive than it has to be. Luckily, we’ve come up with these tips to help you find the best moving company for your upcoming move.

#1. Ask your friends and family for references.

Before you start looking for a moving company on Google or Bing, ask your friends and family for references. If they were happy with the movers they previously hired, there’s a good chance that you will be, too. Keep in mind, though, that if you have special circumstances or needs that your friends or family didn’t — for example, you need to move a piano or you’re moving across the state instead of the street — you’ll need to ensure that the company is up to the task at hand.

#2. Read reviews from past clients.

Ideally, you’ll be able to find a mover through a reference from someone you trust, but if no one you know has used a mover — or at least a mover they would recommend — you’ll need a plan b for finding the right packers and movers. There are a lot of different moving companies you could choose from in Denver and Northern Colorado, and one way to distinguish between the many companies that come up in a Google search is to read the reviews. Positive reviews can tell you a lot about the kind of service that a company provides, and how the company responds to any negative reviews will give you a good idea of if and how the company corrects mistakes.

#3. Do your research.

Online reviews and referrals are wonderful in your initial search, and you should use them to find three or four different moving companies to continue researching. One great place to start is by calling or visiting the Better Busines Bureau (BBB) online. It’s also smart to look the company up on consumer-advocacy websites, like movingscam.com and ripoffreport.com to find their history of consumer complaints.

#4. Make sure that they are fully licensed and insured.

Hiring movers isn’t like hiring someone to come out and clean your gutters or mow your lawn. Hiring a mover means that you’re trusting them to come inside your home and handle most, if not all, of your possessions, and that’s not something you should take lightly. Any moving company you hire must be fully licensed and insured, and you should make sure that they are before getting an estimate from them or hiring them.

#5. Ask the company for references.

Although you can learn a lot about a company by reading their online reviews and researching them on the BBB and other consumer advocacy websites, it’s still important to ask the mover for references. Sometimes, the reviews left online can’t be trusted, as some review sites don’t verify users before allowing them to leave reviews. When you ask the company for references, you’ll gain insight into the experiences of the company’s actual clients, and that will give you a better idea of the type of service you can expect.

#6. Get multiple estimates.

Once you’ve narrowed down your choices to two or three fully licensed and insured moving companies that have good references and reviews, it’s now time to get a few estimates. When the estimator comes to your home, make sure that you show them everything that needs to be moved, including anything you have stored in your garage, attic and/or crawl space. After you receive all of your estimates, you’ll then have what you need to choose the right company. If one estimate is much higher or lower than the others, make sure that you ask why.
